JEE Main is a computer-based online test conducted by National Testing Agency for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate courses in top engineering institutes in India. It is the first phase of the IIT Joint Entrance Exam. The JEE Main examination is conducted in two sessions and candidates can take the exam either in the month of January or in April. The candidates can further opt to appear for one exam or both exams. The better of two NTA scores will be considered by the exam conducting authority in preparing the ranks/merit list.

More significantly, students are granted admission to IITs, CFITs, NITs, and other Government funded technical institutes based on the marks obtained in JEE Main. Also, the top 2,50,000 students from JEE Main will qualify to appear for JEE Advanced.

JEE Mains (Joint Entrance Examination Main) is a national level entrance exam conducted by the NTA to select students for admission in BE/BTech, BPlan, and BArch courses at the IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology), NITs (National Institute of Technology) and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) across the country. It is also the eligibility exam for the JEE Advanced for admission in various undergraduate and dual engineering programmes offered by the IIT’s in the country.


What is JEE Main?

Joint Entrance Examination – Main or commonly known as JEE Main is an engineering level entrance exam conducted by the NTA to offer admission to BE/BTech, BPlan and BArch courses at the IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology), NITs (National Institute of Technology) and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) across the country. From 2021, JEE Main will be held four times. The candidate’s best of the 2021 NTA scores will be considered for preparation of merit list/ranking

The counselling cum seat allotment for all the IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs will be organised and managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). In 2020, 107 institutes participated in JoSAA Counselling.


JEE Main 2021 Latest News (Announcements) –

  • JEE Main 2021 April & May Session application process has been started on 25th March 2021. Application form available online on the NTA website.
  • JEE Main March Session 2021 Result has been announced on 25th March 2021. Aspirants can check their result on the official NTA website.
  • JEE Main March 2021 final answer key is released. Candidates who have appeared for the exam can check the same at the official website.
  • JEE Main 2021 registration process started on 16th December 2020 and closed on 16th January 2021.
  • As per the released JEE Main 2021 schedule, the February and March sessions exam were conducted from February 23-26, 2021 (Session 1) and 16-18 March 2021 (Session 2). The April session exam is to be held from 27-30 April (Session 3) and the May session exam will be held from 24-28 May 2021 (Session 4).

JEE Main 2021 Exam Timings

As in 2020, NTA will be the conducting body for JEE Main 2021 exam. The exam would be conducted in two shifts each day namely Shift 1 and Shift 2. JEE Main Eligibility Criteria

Candidates, who are willing to appear in JEE Main, must fulfil basic eligibility conditions to appear in the entrance test. The eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2021 is as follows:

Age Criteria

  • Those who are born on or after 1st October 1996 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2021.
  • There is 5-year relaxation in upper age to the SC/ST and PWD candidates.
  • The date of birth should be as per the matriculation (10th) certificate.

Academic Qualification

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board/institute.
  • Subjects: Candidates must have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along one of the subject among Biology/Chemistry/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subject for B.E./B.Tech. course. However, for B.Arch./B.Planning, candidates should have completed 10+2 exam with Mathematics subject.
  • Passing Year: Candidates passed in the 12th class examination in the year 2019 and 2020 are also eligible to apply. However, the one who is appearing in the 12th class examination in the year 2021 can also apply for JEE Main.
  • The students who appeared in the class 12th examination in the year 2018 and did not pass the exam and passed in the year 2019 are not eligible to apply.

Number of Attempts

  • The number of attempts is restricted and students can appear in JEE Main maximum 03 number of times.

JEE Main Syllabus 2021

The candidates must be aware of the JEE Main syllabus in details for preparation of the exam. The syllabus will contain subject of the 11th and 12th standard of CBSE and other State boards. Syllabus for both paper 1 and Paper 2 will be different from each other. There will be questions on physics, chemistry and mathematics subjects in Paper 1 while Paper 2 will contain mathematics, aptitude and drawing sections. Candidates can submit JEE Main application form through online mode only. There is no other way to submit an application form. The application form will be available on the official website. How to Prepare for JEE Main 2021

JEE Main 2021 Exam Day Guidelines

Below are some of the important items that the candidates should or should not carry to the JEE Main 2021 test centre. Also given are the documents that candidates must bring to the examination centre without which they will not be allowed to appear in the exam.

What to carry on Exam Day?

The test-takers will be provided with a pencil and a sheet for any rough work they do. However, candidates are advised to carry a pen or a pencil for the test.

Items allowed within exam centre:

  • Admit card: This is a mandatory document without which candidates will not be allowed to take JEE Main 2021. Candidates will have to carry a printed copy of admit card downloaded from NTA’s website along with the Undertaking duly signed
  • Sanitiser: Candidates have to carry 50 ml sanitiser bottle
  • Ball Point Pen: This time candidates have to carry a ballpoint pen to the exam hall
  • Masks & Gloves: Candidates have to wear masks and gloves while in the examination hall
  • Photograph: Candidates are also requested to carry one passport size photograph to the test centre. This should be the same as uploaded while filling the online application form. The photograph needs to be pasted on a specific space in the attendance sheet at the examination hall
  • Transparent water bottle: Candidates have to carry one transparent water bottle
  • Photo ID: Authorised photo IDs (must be original, valid and non-expired) too will be required at the exam centre. You can carry your Aadhaar Card in case you are asked for a photo ID. If you do not have one, then carry any valid Photo ID along with your admit card.
  • Certificates: PWD certificate issued by the Competent Authority, if claiming relaxation under PwD category.

What not to do on exam day?

  • Candidates will not be allowed to leave the exam hall without the permission of Centre Superintendent or the Invigilator concerned.
  • No candidate will be allowed to carry any eatables, tea or coffee in the examination hall during exam hours.
  • Smoking and eating are strictly prohibited in the examination room.
  • Diabetic students will be allowed to carry eatables like sugar tablets/fruits (like banana/ apple/ orange) and transparent water bottle. However, they will not be allowed to carry any packed foods like candy/chocolate/sandwich.

JEE Main 2021 Mock Test

JEE Main 2021 mock test at the practice centres will be made available by the NTA. The mock tests can be accessed by all JEE Main 2021 aspirants. Candidates can practice regularly by taking the mock test as well as preparing from previous years’ question papers.

JEE Main Answer Key 2021

  • The CBSE will publish the answer keys for both Paper-I and Paper-II in the month of January 2021.
  • Candidates can verify their answers and also calculate their expected score with the help of answer keys.
  • One can easily download the answer keys from the official website.
  • If a candidate is not satisfied with answers given in the answer key, then he/she can challenge the same by paying Rs.1000/per question.
